Welcome to The Globe

Located on King's Quay Street in Harwich, The Globe is a quintessential old English pub that captures the spirit of traditional British taverns with authenticity and charm. With a solid rating of 4.2, this establishment offers an unpretentious yet warm atmosphere, making it a favored spot for both locals and visitors exploring the historic heart of Harwich.

The Globe stands out for its commitment to real ales, including a notable range from the Harwich Brewery, served straight from the barrel on weekends. Its selection extends beyond cask beers to include a varied assortment of bottled ales and an impressive collection of boxed ciders, totaling over a dozen varieties. This diversity appeals to enthusiasts seeking a genuine and flavorful drinking experience.

What truly defines The Globe is its character—an unapologetically unpolished pub with plenty of seating, quirky vintage decorations, and a lively atmosphere that takes patrons back to the roots of English pub culture. Regulars and newcomers alike appreciate the straightforward, no-frills approach where great drinks come first. The presence of friendly landlords, notably Tracey and Steve, adds to the welcoming vibe, reinforcing a sense of community that permeates the venue.

Though it lacks modern frills or upscale amenities, The Globe’s strength lies in its authenticity and the genuine connections fostered within its walls. The pub has become a hub during local events such as the Sea Shanty Festival, where the blend of history, music, and spirited conversation creates an unforgettable ambiance. Visitors often note the spirited personality of the staff, offering a raw and engaging experience that many find refreshingly real compared to more commercial establishments.

In a world where many pubs aim to impress with style over substance, The Globe remains steadfast as a "proper little boozer" that prizes tradition and camaraderie. The ambiance, combined with the expert curation of ales and ciders, makes it a must-visit for anyone eager to experience unvarnished English pub culture in Harwich.

A little quirky traditional pub that certainly has an acquired taste. Bartender has an attitude but that's her personality which gives the pub character. A few drinks there that are very different to standard pubs and taste great. Box ciders, usual larger. Plenty of seating and history and decorations give it that unique twang. Loved it and the location is perfect if exploring the older part of Harwich town.

Proper little boozer, we visited a few times over the shanty festival. There was a choice of 7 ales straight out of the barrel an 12 ciders out of the box. Great pub lovely landlords it is what it is.

Obviously most of the reviews on here disagree with Paul Block's 1/5 stars as I do. We visited here twice during the Sea Shanty Festival. This is a basic pub with, I guess, a core of regulars who keep it going. At last weekends shanty festival it was very full and had a great atmosphere. The windows get steamed up and when I first visited with Sue during the weekend you couldn't see through the windows, Sue said to me 'let's go in' and we did. The place was packed. They had three English bitters on the bar in barrels and an excellent selection of boxed ciders. The land lady was reminiscent of Clary Grundy from the Archers and we both felt at home (that's me and Sue). Usually however the place isn't packed and it is probably a nice place to sit and read a book while nursing a nice pint of bitter without being bothered. I would like to know what happens at closing time and I fancy closing time is when you leave but at least I don't believe they would ever shout at you as most hostelries do these days when they want you out.

Fantastic basic beer drinking pub. We walked into the pub , my friend started to put a mask on as we had been refused entry in the last pub because I do not wear one . The landlord said I'll not serve you if you wear one of those masks! Literally a breath of fresh air and common sense. In the previous pub no one was wearing a mask whilst seated but you had to wear one to enter the pub!!!
